The creation and activities of the Polish Network of Clinical Research in Pediatrics (POLPEDNET – Polish Paediatric Clinical Trials Network) result directly from the Pediatric Regulation (REGULATION OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND COUNCIL on medicinal products for pediatric use and amending Regulation (EEC) No. 1768/92, Directive 2001/83 / EC and Regulation (EC) No 726/2004).

The initiative to establish the network was submitted in 2017 and confirmed by representatives of four Polish pediatric centers:

• Children’s Memorial Health Institute – Warsaw

• Mother and Child Health Institute – Lodz

• Mother and Child Institute – Warsaw

• University Children’s Hospital in Cracow

The mission of POLPEDNET is to improve the quality of clinical trials of future medicinal products carried out in different age groups of the pediatric population. The created network is to conduct these tests based on standard operating procedures and unified documentation. The network’s tasks will also include advice on planning clinical trials, gathering information on potential participants in clinical trials (feasibility), providing training (eg in the area of research nurse’s tasks), and collecting data for clinical trials.

POLPEDNET’s tasks besides improving the quality of clinical trials in introducing future medicinal products in the pediatric population is to exchange experience with other pediatric networks in the world.

POLPEDNET as a network is open to cooperation with both the pharmaceutical sector and organizations supporting or associating pediatric patients. The plan is to create an advisory group of young people (Young Person Advisiry Group [YPAG]) which will closely cooperate with POLPEDNET both in terms of substance and the receipt of medicinal products by the pediatric group.

POLPEDNET cooperates in international projects, including from European Paediatric Translational Research Infrastructure (EPTRI), connet4children (c4c).
