Hypertension (HT) has been one of the most common risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and death in Poland and worldwide. Therefore, its effective treatment has become a priority for hypertensiologists, cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and cardiologists, family doctors and doctors of other specialties.

To date, the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) and the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) have developed joint guidelines for the treatment of HT, but both societies have developed their latest publications separately. In order to increase the effectiveness of HT therapy, the actions of all specialists should be coordinated and based on common guidelines. With this in mind, the Main Board of the Polish Society of Hypertension (PTNT) and the Polish Cardiac Society (PTK) decided to develop a joint document, which we are presenting today.
